About Me

Jacqueline F. Currie

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor

Jacqueline’s journey to work in Mental Health began after seeking a therapist in High School. Although the experience was highly encouraged by her parents, she struggled with trusting and connecting with her therapist. She decided to major in psychology upon entering college with the end goal of becoming the therapist that she herself needed years earlier. In 2008, with the birth of her son, Karon, Jacqueline experienced a heavy wave of uncertainty surrounding a terminal medical diagnosis which led to many negative emotions. Jacqueline found herself shutting off her social interactions and into a state of depression for the first few years of his life. She felt as though she was alone and could not bring herself to utilize basic coping skills to break away from those emotions. The constant unknown factors surrounding his medical condition and learning about the day to day care he would need proved to be anxiety provoking and debilitating from day to day.

In 2012 she was let go from her job and decided it would be a good time to configure all of her journal entries about new motherhood experiences into a book to help other parents who may also be encountering similar struggles. In August 2019, the second edition of her self published book "My Gift to You" was published and brought attention to stigmas associated with issues pertaining to children with special needs and their families. It is a journal of her journey raising an ill infant and the years that follow leading to ultimate triumph and joy. The book has started community conversations and buzz around ways that medical providers can assist parents with grieving and advocating better for their own mental health and the care of the children. Today, she is the Clinical Director of a Day Treatment Program servicing children ages 7-17 years old. In addition, she serves clients part time in private practice.

AS AN ADVOCATE FOR MENTAL HEALTH, Jacqueline seeks to open the conversation about families who fight their way through adversity and medical illness and to dispel stigmas related to mental health. She is the co host on "The Couch", a mental health radio show on Power 104.4 FM Radio. After raising the suggestion for mental health to be discussed more on the news, Jacqueline has become the co host of a new segment on Fox 46 entitled "Getting Results For Your Mental Health" where she is currently making monthly appearances to bring mental health awareness to viewers.

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Jacqueline majored in Psychology at Bennett College For Women and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. She earned a Masters degree from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois. She then relocated to Charlotte, NC and pursued her licensure in the counseling field years later. Jacqueline enjoys spending 2-3 nights a week at karate practice with her 11 year old son, Karon, and enjoying fun activities with him whenever possible. Through advocacy, education, and putting her best foot forward, she believes that she can make a difference by being the change she wants to see.
